Hebrews 11 is sometimes called the ”faith hall of fame.” The author lists character after character from the Bible, and explains that their motivation for wandering in the desert, enduring hardship, making sacrifices, was faith. In verse 16, the author says they “were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland.”

When I think of what God has asked me to sacrifice, how He’s asked me to give up my comfort to follow Him, I go back to these verses. It’s tempting to look at what I give up to follow Jesus as a loss, but faith, the evidence of what I can’t see, reminds me that when I make a sacrifice to follow Jesus, when I get uncomfortable, there’s an eternal payoff. I may not see it now, but I know God is using my obedience to change the world.

This is what Building Brentwood is all about. We’ve seen so much transformation, restoration, development and connection in our church, and we know that by faith, we can be part of Building Brentwood, so God can do so much more. Just like the characters in Hebrews 11, we have to walk in faith, knowing that God has kept His promises to us in the past, and will keep His promises to us in the future.

What would it look like for you to participate in Building Brentwood “by faith”?

PRAY: For God to use Building Brentwood to grow your faith.
